May Water Safety Focus – Boat Safety Skills
This month, our swimmers are learning essential boat safety skills to help them stay safer in, on, and around the water.
Through engaging and practical lessons, swimmers are building awareness and confidence by practising safe ways to enter the water from a boat, including:
🛟 Stride Entries
🛟 Backwards Roll Entries
🛟 Side Roll Entries
A big focus this month is understanding how to safely enter the water while wearing a lifejacket and protecting their head during entry.
Swimmers are learning our key prompt:
🟢 T – Arms out wide to form the letter “T”
🟢 Nose – Use one hand to hold your nose
🟢 Lifejacket – Use the other arm to hug across your body, while the arm holding your nose also secures the lifejacket
These practical safety skills help swimmers build real-life confidence and knowledge, empowering them to make safer decisions whenever they are around the water.
